"The Anthropology of Morality in Melanesia and Beyond" examines how Melanesians experience and deal with moral issues. In a variety of ethnographic and theoretical locations, the contributors focus upon public situations and types of people who exemplify key ethical contradictions for members of moral communities. Each author deals with a number of common themes, most importantly the interface between values associated with indigenous village life and the ethical orientations associated with 'modernity'.The volume boasts some of the most prominent scholars currently working in anthropology, including: F.G. Bailey, Bruce Knauft, Robert Tonkinson, Nancy Lutkehaus, Deboar Gewertz and Frederik Errington. Written in a lively and engaging style the volume will appeal to an international readership given the dearth of good enthnographically informed studies on morality.
